February 2000 : Honduras
BACK FROM CENTRAL AMERICA Michael and Chris returned from Central America on February 9, 2000. The trip was a great success. We arrived on 29 January 2000 in Tegucigalpa Honduras. What a glad reunion with our brother Jose who met us at the airport. We had plenty of time to get reacquainted on the bus ride down to Cojolita where we hired a panga(a boat) to take us to the Island. It is almost like coming home when we go to Amapala. The first night we were in Amapala the church was in Vigila, which is an all night Preaching, Praising, Praying and Preparing time. The Church holds these meetings once a month. This is a coming together of the five individual fellowships that have put aside their traditional differences and unified for the purpose of reaching their area for Jesus. The Lord has blessed their efforts in that the Church continues to grow daily, the Lord adding to their number those who are being saved. This is such a wonderful change to what we observed the first trip here in 1997. It is a joy not only to see the numerical growth of the Church but to see the lives of so many brothers and sisters maturing in their relationship with Jesus. Our arrival was well timed. We were needed to bring some teaching and direction to the church. Some issues were being addressed that once again testified of how God is using Elijah Ministries in an apostolic way to establish the way of the Lord and equip people for His work. New leaders are being developed and trained to take on responsible positions in the Church. The body in Amapala is strong and healthy and doing the work of the ministry of Jesus Christ. From Amapala, we set out for Isla De Meanguera, El Salavador. We reunited with Pastor and National Evangelist Jaime Flamenco. Jaime is the brother who has opened up El Salvador to Elijah Ministries. In an evening meeting in Pastor Jaimes church, Chris and I team preached and the power of God was demonstrated in the simple preaching of the gospel. Many were reconciled to the Lord and filled with the Holy Spirit. There were several physical healings and people being set free from demonic powers. Jesus is Alive and the Same. Early the next morning (3:00am) we went to the beach to catch the first out-going panga (boat) to La Union, El Salvador. La Union is a city of 25,000 or more population. Pastors of La Union El Salvador
SIX DAYS OF GRACE Upon our arrival in La Union we went to meet Pastor Armando Bonilla of the La Primera Iglesia asambleas de Dios. We stayed in his church building. Since neither Chris or myself speak fluent Spanish, we were to have an interpreter. We sat getting acquainted with our hosts when a messenger arrived. They informed us of a small problem. Our interpreter was shot in the face on his way to meet us. By Gods grace the man will be fine, however another person was needed to interpret for us. A dear brother was found and he agreed to be with us for the six days. For six days at 3:30 pm in a cancha (sportsfield) hundreds of people from different parts of the city came to here the songs of joyous praise and the preaching of the gospel.
Many received Jesus, as well physical and emotional healing, deliverance; many prodigals returned to the Father, and numbers were filled with theHoly Spirit. It was like bible days once again in our generation. Chris and I spent two mornings from 9:00 to 12:00 teaching the pastors of several different churches. One day our interpreter was unable to come; so we did it! We taught the lessons in Spanish. Chris was awesome. The pastors took the notes of the simple teaching and they said it was so good and easy to understand they were going to preach it to their congregations. I said it was six days of Grace and it was. God proves Himself strong in our weakness if we will just get out there on the front lines and give Him something to strengthen. That area of El Salvador will not be the same. This is what Pastor Armando Bonilla declared. We join in agreement with him. God is doing a powerful work all over the earth. He still needs more laborers (any volunteers?). We will be returning to Central America in July. Continue to pray and ask the Lord how you can help. These places that the Lord is opening up to Elijah Ministries are off the beaten path. They are not on the circuit of most ministries. God is allowing us to go into these areas and change the atmosphere, giving an open heaven for His grace to pour out upon people He loves and cares about.
